From fashion apps that tell you what to wear in the snow to naming your first born child Hashtag, social media has caused quite a stir in 2012. It has impacted all aspects of the world, including the fashion industry.
It all started when the wife of a Rovio executive showed up at the Finnish Presidential Palace dressed in an”Angry Birds” themed dress last December. The one-shouldered evening gown was decorated to resemble the face of those lovable cartoon birds.
Now, one year later, a new development in social media-styled fashion has hit the red carpet. Only this time, it’s electronic.
Nicole Scherzinger attended the Everything Everywhere (U.K.’s first 4G mobile network) network launch party, last Thursday, wearing a gown with a built-in twitterfeed. It displayed live tweets, which were directed at @EE and featured the hashtag “tweetthedress.”
Rechargeable via USB, the fashion forward gown made it easy for fans to comment on the event in real time. It contains over 2,000 LED lights, which are embedded in the French chiffon material. The designers of the gown, CuteCurcuit, also included 3,000 Swarovski crystals, for that extra shine.
In case you were wondering, CuteCurcuit is a clothing company that designs interactive, wearable technology. One of their first red carpet creations was Katy Perry’s gown for the 2010 Met Gala. Most of their clothing includes LED lights, however, Nicole’s dress was the first to feature a successful, live twitter component.
What do you think of these social media-inspired gowns?
