While it’s been a week since Hurricane Sandy made landfall, the Northeast is still recovering from the storms devastating blow. People from all over are coming together to show their support and get the families that were hit the hardest back on their feet.
The fashion industry has taken matters into its own hands by setting up ways for you to donate to the cause. Barneys New York, for example, has been giving back by donating a percentage of their proceeds to the Sandy relief fund. Other major industry players have turned to social media to help show their support.
Rachel Roy and Ralph Lauren have spent the last week encouraging their twitter followers to make $10 donations to the Red Cross by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999. Lord & Taylor turned to Facebook to get their message across. All you have to do is “LIKE” their page through Christmas and the store will donate a $1 for each “LIKE” to the New York Red Cross.
At the other end of the media circuit, American Apparel took Hurricane Sandy as a great outlet to promote a sale. The clothing retailer sent out an email blast Monday night, offering 20% off to customers for the next 36 hours “in case you’re bored during the storm.” They have been dubbed insensitive and outrageous. I know that I won’t be shopping there again.
Please show your support any way that you can!
